Description

Kitchen – 2 is a stylised still life — a bottle, a glass and a pear — assembled from brown and ochre patches of ornament.

What the picture shows

The bottle in the centre is outlined in black with a green vertical line and a green leaf at its side; the glass on the left is a black contour filled with red and yellow. The pear on the right is worked in red and orange with a white cut face and black pips. The background is broken into bands of different patterns — white triangles, orange and yellow zigzags, rings, spiral squares, wavy lines — each set out in its own rows of beads. Some patches are left as print, which keeps the piece from feeling overloaded. The ten colours are scattered across the field in small portions, so the piece behaves like a mosaic where every patch has its own rhythm.
