Description

“Kisses” shows two little mice in red caps nose to nose inside a Christmas wreath. The mood is warm and childlike.

What the picture shows

The wreath fills almost the whole square: dark green holly leaves, red berries, tiny gold stars and fluffy turquoise sprigs, with a red bow and long ribbons at the bottom. The two mice sit right in the middle; their caps with white pompoms and their fur collars are worked in beads, while the faces, ears and paws stay as watercolour printing. Blue, white and copper snowflakes are scattered in the corners. The white ground is left almost bare — on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface: they carry the wreath, the bow, the caps and the snowflakes, and the print does the rest. The beads vary in finish: matt white on the pompoms, transparent red on the berries, metallic gold on the stars, so the wreath never looks flat. The caps and the bow are beaded more densely than the leaves, and the eye goes to the centre at once.
