Description

Kettle – 1 sets a terracotta coffee pot with red-and-gold ornament beside a jug, a glass and half a pear on a warm ochre ground.

What the picture shows

The coffee pot’s silhouette is outlined in black, its lid and spout in red and white, and bands of yellow, orange and red beads with a triangular pattern run round the body. The jug behind is drawn in black and amber with a blue row at the neck. The glass on the right is outlined in pale blue with red wine inside. The pear, its cut half and the green leaves are worked in green, white and orange. The yellow crackle-textured ground and the striped cloth stay as print. Most of the eleven colours go into the ornament on the coffee pot — the bands of yellow, orange and red are what make it the lead object in the frame.
