Description

In Jungle shows a baby monkey sitting on a vine among tropical flowers, scratching its head as if it has just had an idea.

What the picture shows

The monkey is outlined in brown and gold beads, with short dashes of the same colours across the coat that stress the curve of the back and the long curled tail. The flowers below and on the left are worked in lilac, white, pink and red, the leaves in green and emerald. The vine under its feet is laid out in black and gold rows. A band of ornament runs down each side: red-and-green rosettes with yellow centres on a light ground. The tropical leaves, the bananas and the face itself stay printed on the canvas — the beads add relief without covering the drawing. Eleven colours work on a green-and-red contrast. The yellow blossoms on the right are beaded along the edge of every floret.
