Description

In a brushwood puts a wooden footbridge over a small waterfall in a flowering garden, with a white heron standing still at the water’s edge.

What the picture shows

The bridge and its railings are worked in brown, copper and gold, each plank picked out as its own row. On the right a lilac bush is filled with small clusters of purple and pink beads, with a dark green spruce branch and pink blossom below it. On the left there are orange flowers and light green foliage, and blue and pink dots scatter across the water at the bottom. The waterfall, the stones and the dense blue-green thicket above stay as painting on the canvas — the beads bring the foreground forward. The nine colours are distributed by plane: warm browns for the bridge, purples and pinks for the bushes, greens for the foliage, blues for the water.
