Description

“Holiday time” shows a golden bicycle with a fir tree in its basket against a warm red ground strung with bunting.

What the picture shows

The bicycle runs sideways across the whole picture: frame, rims and chain are worked in bronze and gold beads, the tyres in black, while the spokes are left as fine printing. The front basket holds green branches with red berries, the rear one a small snowy fir with blue and white lights. Two strings of bunting are stretched above — blue, yellow and white triangles outlined in beads. The ground is pink-red with printed snowflakes, some of them picked out in white beads, and a white band of snow lies under the wheels. The beading is not solid, so the red snowflake ground stays as printing and holds the whole composition together. The bunting, the tree and the band of snow add cool blue accents that balance the warm red ground and keep the picture from turning too sugary.
