Mini Bead Embroidery Kit on Art Canvas "Gorodets painting"

“Gorodets painting” is a festive folk motif: a pair of birds inside a dense wreath of flowers on a warm yellow ground.

What the picture shows

Two stylised birds stand in the centre, dark-bodied, with violet and white patterning on their wings and red combs. Above and below them large blooms are scattered — red, crimson, blue and lilac rosettes with white and yellow centres, with green leaves and thin tendrils between. Narrow bands of small white three-bead clusters run down both sides. The birds, the flowers and the side motifs are worked in beads, while the painted yellow ground stays as print on the canvas — that is how the design works, and the matt print sets off the shine of the beads. The birds are worked in the darkest beads in the kit, so they read at once as the centre of the composition, with the flowers around them falling as lighter patches.
