Description

“Garden flowers” shows a full bouquet of roses and peonies in a bronze goblet vase, with books and a pocket watch beside it.

What the picture shows

The vase stands at the centre — dark bronze with curved handles and a tall foot, worked in fine beads with a golden sheen. Pink, cream and peach blooms rise from it among dark green leaves. A white cup with blue flowers sits on a saucer at the lower left, two blue volumes and a round pocket watch on a chain at the right. The pale ground carries printed handwriting; it is not beaded, so the stitched flowers and metal stand out in relief. The roses and peonies are beaded as rings laid in layers out from the centre, the leaves in short rows along the veins. The pocket watch is picked out in gold, its chain made of single beads.
