Description

“Fiona” is a red-haired girl in a blue dress with a posy, on a lilac ground with crowns.

What the picture shows

Her hair is bright ginger, gathered into two tails, with a gold beaded crown above the fringe and pink and blue beaded flowers at the temples. The dress is dark blue, and strings of beads run across it in rows: the collar, the belt, the vertical bands on the skirt, the frill along the hem. In her hand she holds a fluffy pink flower, beaded as well. Her stockings and shoes are picked out with a few beads. The background is lilac with printed pale crowns, and pink bands with yellow-gold beaded motifs run down both sides. The dress is not beaded solidly: strings of beads run in bands with printed blue fabric left between them, which is why the folds keep their depth. The hair, face and hands stay entirely printed. The flower in her hand is worked in small pink beads laid in a circle, like a fluffy ball. The side bands, by contrast, are densely beaded and give the piece firm edges.
