Description

Fairy night shows a snowman in a blue coat reaching up with a lantern towards a golden star, a lamb and a young hare standing quietly at his feet.

What the picture shows

The snowman’s coat, hat and mittens are worked in pale blue with white and silver rows along the edges, his long scarf in deep red and his carrot nose in orange. The lantern in his raised hand and the star above it are yellow and gold beads. The fir tree on the left is filled with green, with small red and orange baubles and a yellow star on top. White and silver snowflakes are scattered across the deep blue sky, and the drift below is drawn in pale arcs. The lamb and the hare stay as print on the canvas — their soft fur is painted rather than beaded. Eleven colours make this the widest palette among the winter pieces here, and it is needed: the snowflakes and sky alone take several whites and silvers.
