Description

“Colored tail” is a stylised peacock whose tail spills out as a fan of paisleys and flowers on a light blue ground.

What the picture shows

The whole upper part is one continuous fan of ornament: teardrop paisleys outlined in white, blue, green and pink beads, with dozens of small flowers between them, each with a yellow or red centre. The colours follow no system — turquoise next to orange, crimson next to lime. At the bottom right a thin blue line sketches a curved neck with a crest, and it is this that makes the bird readable. The rest of the lower field is left as plain pale blue printing, and that emptiness sets off how busy the tail is. Each paisley is outlined in one colour and filled with another, so the work is made up of dozens of small closed shapes and goes slowly, despite the “simple” rating.
