Description

“Colored moths” shows three small fairies sitting on large flowers, with bees circling between the stems.

What the picture shows

The fairies — dark-haired girls with translucent wings — perch on three blooms: a pink daisy with long petals, an orange and lilac one, and a smaller yellow and red flower. The flowers are worked in rows of pink, red, orange and lilac beads with black and white centres; stems and leaves are green. Striped bees and small red hearts drift between them. The yellow watercolour ground and the fairies themselves stay printed on the canvas — beads cover the flowers, the leaves, the bees and the wings, so painted and stitched parts share the picture. The petals of the large pink flower are worked in two shades, lighter at the rim and deeper towards the centre. The fairies' wings are picked out in clear beads, so they stay faint and do not compete with the flowers.
