Description

Cockerel shows a red rooster on a fence, crowing to the sun that rises over a field of sunflowers.

What the picture shows

The tail is built from long curved rows — green, blue, white, red and gold beads, one line per feather. The comb and wattles are red, the neck is worked in rows of white, orange and red, the wing in dark green and amber. The fence under his feet is outlined in brown and black, and a few sunflowers below are picked out in gold. The sunflower field itself, the pink-lilac sky and the yellow disc of the sun stay printed on the canvas — the beads go on the bird and the nearest details, and the background needs no filling. Twelve colours are spent most generously on the tail, and that is what makes the piece bright. Each tail feather is a separate row, and that is the easiest place to begin.
