Description

Cheer monkeys shows two baby monkeys playing on a pale blue ground: one holds a flower, the other wears a blue bow and sits beside a present.

What the picture shows

The coats of both are worked in short dashes of brown, amber and pearl beads across the backs, the arms and around the faces. The long tails are curled into spirals of single beads, and they are what hold the composition together. The bow and the present below are laid out in pale blue, blue and green, the flower in the paw in red, green and white. The snowflakes on the background are white and silver rosettes, the little stars red. The soft blue background and the faces themselves stay printed on the canvas: the beads work on outlines and small details. Ten colours keep a warm ginger range against a cool blue ground.
