Description

“Butterfly in flowers” rests on a single large shape: an open butterfly set against a pale patterned field.

What the picture shows

Its wings are beaded in orange, gold and lilac with dark veins and white specks along the edge; the body and long antennae are black, laid in fine beads. Green stems with leaves rise on either side, and a yellow and white flower with lilac petals opens at the lower right. A broad violet band with a printed leaf pattern frames the scene, edged on the inside with a line of beads. The light background with its faint zigzag stays as print — and that is what gives the butterfly room. The wings are stitched symmetrically, in rows of beads that follow the veins, so both halves come out alike without extra effort. The white specks along the wing edges are set one by one and give a rim of light.
