Description

Blue owl shows a stylised owl with huge violet eyes against a deep blue sky, with black scrolls and flowers curling up on either side.

What the picture shows

The eyes are the brightest part of the work: concentric rings of purple, lilac, mint and white beads, each ring outlined. The chest is filled with vertical dashes of blue and pale blue, the sides with turquoise rows and a pink edging along the wings. The ear tufts are marked in blue and violet. The scrolls at the sides are worked in matt black beads, with pink flowers and violet centres set along them. The blue background with its faint washes stays printed: the beads go on the bird and the ornament, and the canvas between them does the work of colour. Ten colours keep to a single cool range.
