Description

“Bears and basket” is four plush bear cubs gathered around a basket.

What the picture shows

The cubs sit in a row: a panda with black patches, a light ginger one, a cream one and a red one — all left printed, with beads picking out little more than the patches on their sides. In the centre stands a basket beaded in gold and brown with clear rows of weave, and a red-and-white chequered cloth over the top. The ground is cream, scattered with small flowers of pink, red and white beads. Wide patchwork bands run along the top and bottom: squares of yellow, pink, blue and red beads, laid densely — and they frame the scene. The basket is worked in horizontal rows that imitate weaving, and it carries the finest work in the piece. The cloth over it is red and white check. The patchwork bands at the top and bottom are beaded solidly and take a noticeable share of the material. The cubs themselves stay printed, and their soft cream fur contrasts with the shine of the beads.
