Description

“At the waterfall” shows an autumn wood and a fall dropping into a wide stream between the rocks.

What the picture shows

The falling water at the centre is laid in white and pale blue beads; below it the stream spreads out in long horizontal rows that catch the light. A tall tree with an orange and red crown rises on the right, green and russet foliage fills the left, and a fallen trunk and grey boulders lie at the bottom. A dark wall of forest closes the view behind. Sky, rocks and distant trees stay as print on the canvas — the beadwork adds shine exactly where the landscape needs water and leaves. The autumn crown is beaded in patches of three shades, from yellow to brick, laid without a firm outline. The falling water is worked in vertical rows and the stream below in horizontal ones, and that change of direction reads clearly.
