Description

“Umbrella and tulips” shows an open turquoise umbrella with an armful of tulips inside it.

What the picture shows

The umbrella stands almost upright in the centre: the canopy is stitched in bands of turquoise, blue, green and white beads, the crook handle at the top in brown, while a pink and yellow lining escapes from the folds below. A bouquet looks out of the canopy — pink, raspberry and lilac tulips with tight buds, long green leaves and small white sprays between them. The background is the most interesting part: it is built from short vertical and horizontal strokes of white, cream, grey and peach beads that radiate from the centre and gradually thin out. The yellow printed canvas shows through them and is left entirely bare in the corners.
