Description

“The Little Prince” is a tiny figure in a blue cosmos with a long trail of flowers and stars streaming away from it.

What the picture shows

The ground is a deep violet nebula with blue and lilac washes and white specks of stars. At the upper left stands a slender figure of the prince in pale blue, with a small planet beside him. From there a wide ribbon runs down to the right: white lines, orange and red star-flowers, fine dots. In the lower corner the trail scatters into blooms the colour of cinnamon and vermilion. The beads fill the figure, the planet and the whole flowering trail with its stars, while the blurred cosmic ground stays as colour printing on the canvas and gives the work its depth. The beading is densest in the trail itself, where the rows run one after another and read as a solid band of colour, while the upper part keeps only single scattered stars.

The 200×200 mm square holds the composition on a diagonal, so the piece works on its own as well as in a group. The finished embroidery is meant for gallery mounting: the canvas is stretched on a bar frame with no baguette and no passe-partout, and a frame, if you want one, is chosen separately. The difficulty is average: sixteen colours and a clear print keep you oriented even in the scatter of small stars.
