Description

“Sunflowers in night’s embrace” is a field of sunflowers under a swirling starry sky in the manner of Van Gogh.

What the picture shows

The sky takes the upper half: spirals of blue, azure and white beads, a pale moon in a wide halo and stars with rays. Below stand sunflowers of different sizes — three large blooms with dark brown centres and golden petals in the foreground, and behind them a yellow field running to a horizon where blue hills are just visible. The beads fill the sky, the moon, the flowers and the field; the darker gaps between the petals stay as printing on the canvas. The sunflower centres are beaded in several browns along a spiral, so they echo the same swirl that runs through the sky.
