Description

“Spring bird” is a decorative folk bird on a turquoise ground, perched among flowers instead of a branch.

What the picture shows

The bird sits half-turned: a cobalt-blue head with a crest, crimson breast, a wing laid out in bands of yellow, white and blue, and a long tail that opens into ribbons. Around it are flowers from folk painting: pink bells, red berries, white daisies and green leaves on springy scrolls. The ground is an even turquoise mint; it stays printed and holds the whole colour pattern together. The beads cover the bird, the flowers and the leaves — seventeen colours make the picture rich without turning it noisy. Every petal is outlined with a contrasting row of beads, as in folk painting, and the tail ends in three drops of different colours.
