Description

“Seven seas” is a collage of seaside finds on an old chart: a spiral shell, an anchor, a scallop, a starfish, a sailing boat and a striped lighthouse.

What the picture shows

Thin lines of silver-grey beads divide the picture into panels. A long spiral shell in pink and beige lies across the top left, and below it a bronze anchor with its chain rests on a muted red ground. A big fan-shaped scallop fills the centre, stitched in rows of ochre, gold and white, with a brick-red starfish and its speckled middle underneath. A small sailing boat with pink and blue sails sits in the bottom left corner. The whole right side belongs to the lighthouse: red and white bands, a glazed lantern with a gold cap, and a dark stone base in black and grey beads. The background is a printed chart with ocean names and stays bare of beads.
