Description

“Once upon a night” shows an owl drawn in coloured lines on a dark grey ground.

What the picture shows

The bird sits in profile with its head turned to the viewer and fills the centre of the picture. The figure is not filled solid: it is assembled from lines and rings — the large round eyes are ringed in lilac, blue and green, pink and violet arcs lie across the breast, the wing is built from long strands of raspberry, blue, black and yellow beads, and the tail falls in narrow bands. Thin stems with small flowers and drops spread out to the left and right. The feet show below on a branch. The dark grey printed ground is left open, and it is exactly what holds the whole drawing together.
