Description

“Golden Hamsa” is a protective hand laid out in gold and turquoise on a dark patterned ground.

What the picture shows

The symmetrical hamsa fills the centre: its outline is drawn in turquoise beads, and inside runs a dense golden ornament of drops, scrolls and small diamonds. A blue eye with a black pupil sits in the middle of the palm, with a chain of turquoise dots above it. The ground is plum burgundy with a faint printed damask that shows between the elements and is left unbeaded. There are only five colours, so the piece rests on the contrast of gold, turquoise and deep purple. The fingers are separated by narrow gaps of unbeaded ground, so the silhouette reads clearly even from a distance.

The dark printed damask on the ground shows well from close up, so hang the piece where people come near it. It pairs with any other symmetrical subject in the range.
