Description

“Gentle touch” is three large pale poppies on a cream ground — an almost monochrome piece.

What the picture shows

The flowers open into wide cups: the petals are worked in pearly white, pale lilac and grey-pink beads, deepening slightly from the centre outwards. The stems and narrow leaves are warm coffee brown with gold; they cross each other and carry the composition past the lower edge. Two blooms face the viewer, the third leans aside. The cream ground with its faint shadows stays printed, and the beads sit only on the flowers, stems and leaves. Along the petal edges the beads sit loosely, with gaps, so the edges look thinner than the centre; small thorns worked in a darker tone show on the stems.
