Description

"Fragrant Coffee" is a cup of hot coffee against the sun setting into the sea, where the rising steam and the burning sky merge into one warm glow.

What the picture shows

A dark cup on a saucer stands at the centre, with a curl of steam climbing all the way up to the disc of the sun. Sky and water are laid in horizontal rows of beads in every shade of sunset — crimson, orange, amber and gold. The sun path on the water glows with the lightest beads, while the surface of the coffee is worked in deep cherry and brown. The beads do not cover everything: grey and lilac cloud shadows, the rim of the cup and part of the background stay as print on the art canvas, and that contrast is what gives the piece its depth.
