Description

“Flower of the night” is a large dusky-pink bloom opening on a dark ground.

What the picture shows

The peony fills almost the whole field: the petals are worked in powder pink, smoky lilac and warm beige beads, with ochre and a red dot at the heart. Dark burgundy-brown stems with narrow leaves run out on either side, carrying two tight buds. The ground is deep graphite with a faint canvas texture; it stays printed, and it is this contrast that makes the flower glow. The beads cover the petals, the centre, the leaves and the stems. The outer petals are beaded more loosely, with gaps between the rows, while the centre is dense, which gives the flower its volume.
