Description

“First flowers” shows a wicker basket with the first spring flowers, a bird and a nest.

What the picture shows

The basket sits a little above centre: its slats and curved handle are worked in ochre, brown and pink beads. A loose bouquet lies in front of it — white and yellow daisies, pink crocuses with pointed petals, dense violet and lilac grape hyacinths, an orange bloom and long narrow leaves in several greens. A pale bird with a dark tail perches on the rim, and to the right stands a nest of yellow straw holding a turquoise and a pink egg. Another speckled egg and two turquoise flowers lie at the bottom right, and a yellow butterfly flies in at the top left. The background is a plain cream print and stays as bare canvas.
