Description

"Dance of Doves" shows two white doves in flight among pale clouds, their wings spread as if the birds had just passed each other in mid-air.

What the picture shows

The upper dove climbs, the lower one turns towards the viewer with its wings wide open. The plumage is worked in pearly white, cream and golden beads, while the flight feathers and the shadows under the wings are picked out in warm terracotta and brown. Beaded curls are scattered around the birds, catching the movement of the air. Both figures are set along a diagonal running from the lower left corner to the upper right, and that diagonal carries the movement across the whole square. The background stays as painterly print on the art canvas: the grey, silvery and smoky cloud strokes are not beaded, so the embroidered birds stand out above them almost in relief.
