Description

“A singing bird” is a bird silhouette built out of flowers, berries and leaves, as if a bouquet had taken off.

What the picture shows

On a pale mint ground the figure of a bird is laid out: a small head with a beak at the upper left, a body made of a dense cluster of pink, red, blue and yellow blossoms, green leaves and tiny berries, and a tail that stretches down into a long branch. Separate coloured dots fly off above the back like petals on the wind. The composition is open, with wide gaps, so the pale ground both around and inside the silhouette stays printed — the beads go only onto the flowers, leaves and berries. The wing is suggested by just a few leaves set at an angle, and the bird’s eye is a single dark bead among pale blossoms.
