Description

“Velvet roses” is a stylised female figure whose dress is made from one large red rose. It is the darkest and most formal piece in the series.

What the picture shows

The figure is turned in profile and treated as a convention: the face and the raised hand stay as printing, everything else is beaded. The hair and headdress are built from pearl and gold scrolls curling into a spiral, with small red stones set among them. The lower half is taken up by an open red rose, its petals worked in two reds with darker folds, surrounded by dark green leaves. Pink ribbons wind down from under the flower, along with gold tassels. A red heart with a printed highlight rests in the raised hand. The background is a dark violet-grey and stays printed: the beads go only into the figure, the rose and the ribbons.
