Description

“Lullaby of an angel” shows three infant angels playing stringed instruments beside a woven cradle where a baby sleeps.

What the picture shows

The cradle stands in the centre: a deep basket of thick weave worked in several shades of brown, with a pale blue blanket inside and a baby asleep, one hand raised. On the left an angel holds a small lyre, in the middle a second bends over a cello with a bow, and on the right a third plays a mandolin. All three wear long golden shifts with a sprig of holly at the breast, pale blue wings behind their shoulders and thin gold haloes above their heads. A separate branch of holly with red berries lies in front of the cradle. The background is light, almost white, with snow barely suggested — it stays as printing on the canvas, because the micro beads work on the figures, the cradle and the clothing.
