Description

“Zaporizhzhya region” is a dense red and white ornament of concentric diamonds.

What the picture shows

The shape is almost square, with sharp spurs on every side. The ornament is built from large diamonds nested one inside another: red outlines alternate with white ones, and single beads sit at the centres. There are only two colours, red and white, so the piece looks like a classic embroidered towel pattern transferred onto a map. Seven hundred and twenty-two beads, the highest count among the individual regions in the series, cover almost the whole field, and the print shows only in narrow strips between the rows. A gold beaded cord follows every notch of the border. The dense beading makes this one of the heavier pieces in the series.
