Description

“Vinnytsia region” is an almost square outline filled with a lattice ornament.

What the picture shows

The outline is nearly symmetrical here, with a small spur at the lower right. The ground is dark: the print imitates black cloth crossed by a grid. The ornament is built on a diagonal lattice of black beads, and every cell holds either a red diamond or a white flower of four beads, with even rows of red running between them. Three bead colours — black, red and white — make the classic Ukrainian embroidery combination, and there is nothing else in the piece. A gold cord is stitched along the edge and lifts the magnet off the surface it sits on. Five hundred and eighty beads lie densely, yet the print still shows between them, so the surface never looks solid.
