Description

“Odessa region” is the largest of the regional pieces in the series, with an ornament of half-circles.

What the picture shows

The shape is long and curved, with a narrow isthmus in the middle through which the ornament seems to flow from one part into the other. The design is built from rows of half-circles: each is made of black and white arcs with a red rosette inside. A band of small red and white diamonds runs the length of the piece and splits the field in two. There are three colours — red, black and white. Nine hundred and sixty-five beads, the highest count among the individual regions, make the surface dense, and yet the print on the canvas stays visible between the rows. A gold cord is stitched along the edge.
