Description

“Autonomous Republic of Crimea” is the outline of the peninsula filled with red and gold rosettes.

What the picture shows

The shape follows the peninsula: a broad western part, the curving southern coast and the narrow Kerch tail to the right. The canvas is light with a printed ornament, and large rosettes are worked over it — each with a red ring of petals and a centre of white and gold beads. Small gold and dark brown beads are scattered between them and keep the ground warm. A gold beaded cord is stitched all around the outline, so the edge reads clearly. The beading is not solid: the print on the canvas stays visible between the beads, and that is part of the design. The whole piece takes 419 beads in five colours, and nearly all of them go into the flower circles.
