Description

«Wedding Icon – The Lord God Almighty» shows the Saviour enthroned, the companion piece to the wedding icon of the Mother of God.

What the picture shows

Christ is seated in a red tunic and a blue mantle falling in broad folds. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left holds an open book with lettering. Hair and beard are a warm light brown, the gaze calm and direct. The cruciform halo is worked in ochre and red circles against a golden ground, with architectural halls to either side picked out in blue, white and red. Blue star medallions with monograms sit above, flanking the halo. The border is deep wine-red, scattered with small beaded dots that gather into flower rosettes and garlands — the same treatment as on the companion icon. Coverage is partial — the figure, book, throne, halls and the dotted border pattern are beaded, while the wine-red field and the gold ground stay printed.
