Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Yaroslav"
Description
«St. Yaroslav» shows the holy prince with a church resting on his palm. It is the coolest icon in the series: turquoise and lilac dominate.
What the picture shows
The prince stands half-turned, his right hand pressed to his chest, his left holding a small model of a white church with golden domes and crosses. A low cap embroidered with coloured beads along its fur band covers his head; the beard is dark and closely trimmed. The cloak is turquoise-blue with a fine pattern, with lilac and silvery-white garment folds showing beneath it, and a golden ornamental band running down the centre. The halo is worked in rings of gold and ochre. The pale olive background with its printed leaf scroll stays free of beads: beading covers the figure, the church, the halo, the side ornamental bands, the corner rosettes and the name cartouche. The coverage is partial. The face and hands stay painted — no beads are laid over them, which is why the image keeps its painterly softness.
