What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length and frontal. A blue veil with a light border covers her head and falls onto her shoulders; a dark braid rests on her chest beneath it. Her robe is crimson-red over pink and lilac underlayers, the folds broad and calm. In her right hand she holds a small gold-and-green cross, in her left an unrolled scroll with lines of text. The halo is golden-orange with a pale centre and thin rays. The ground is cream with faint painted scrollwork; a dark brown border of diamonds and rosettes runs around the edge, with fans in the upper corners and an inscribed cartouche below. The fill is partial: beads cover the robes, veil, cross, halo and border ornament, while the ground, face, hands and the scroll with its text stay printed on the canvas.
