Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Ustin"

«St. Ustin» is a waist-length image of the martyr with a cross. It is the warmest piece in colour: russet and orange dominate.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally, holding a small golden cross on a shaft in her right hand. A maphorion in a warm russet-red, shading towards orange and pink, covers her head and shoulders; the folds fall wide and soft. From under the cloak a dark green dress descends at the centre — the only cool shade in the piece. The halo is large, worked in several rings of yellow, gold, orange and warm brown. The cream-olive background with its printed leaf scroll stays unbeaded: beading covers the figure, the cross, the halo, the side ornamental bands, the corner rosettes and the name cartouche below. The coverage is partial. The face and hands stay painted — no beads are laid over them, which is why the image keeps its painterly softness.
