Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Symeon"
Description
“St. Symeon” — a waist-length image of the righteous saint holding a large open scroll.
What the picture shows
The saint is shown as a young man with chestnut hair to his shoulders and a short beard, turned slightly to the left. He wears a loose blue-and-turquoise outer garment over a pale shirt with a narrow collar. Both hands hold a broad white scroll that falls in a wave; lines of writing run across it. The halo is built from rings of gold, olive and white. The background is a pale cream with printed leaf scrollwork; two fan-shaped motifs in amber tones sit in the upper corners, narrow brown-and-gold bands run down the sides, and a cartouche with the name closes the panel below. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the garments, the scroll, the halo and the whole frame, while the face, hands and printed background are left unbeaded on the canvas.
