Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Solomiya"
Description
“St. Solomiya” — a waist-length image of the holy myrrh-bearer with a vessel of myrrh at her breast.
What the picture shows
The saint is turned slightly to the right, her head inclined and her gaze lowered. A lilac-blue maphorion covers her head and shoulders, with a white-and-lilac patterned veil showing beneath it, and a pink dress with a fine trim below that. A gold vessel for myrrh with a red inset hangs on a chain at her breast. The halo is built from gold and amber rings, darkest at the centre and lightening towards the rim. The whole range is cool — lilac, blue, muted pink — and only the halo and the frame hold any warmth. The background is cream with printed leaf scrollwork, surrounded by an amber-brown ornamental band with fan-shaped upper corners and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: the face, hands and background stay as printed on the canvas.

The piece is vertical, the size of a small household icon. It suits a name-day icon for a Solomiya. Because the range is cool, it matters here to take lilacs and blues close in lightness, so the folds of the drapery do not merge into a single block.
