Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St.Praskovya"

«St.Praskovya» is a waist-length image of the great martyr with a cross and an open scroll. The colours are warm, the robe a deep orange.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally. Her right hand holds a slender cross in a warm brick tone; her left holds an unrolled scroll with lines of text worked in dark beads on a pale field. A blue band covers her head, and over it lies an orange-russet maphorion in dense folds, with a blue dress and a vertical stripe visible beneath. The large halo is assembled from rings of yellow, gold and terracotta and almost touches the ornamental frame. The pale olive background with its printed leaf pattern stays unbeaded — beading covers the figure, the scroll, the halo, the side ornamental bands, the corner fan rosettes and the cartouche below. The coverage is partial, and the contrast between the dense beadwork and the smooth printed ground holds the composition together. The face and hands stay painted — no beads are laid over them, which is why the image keeps its painterly softness.
