Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Platon"
Description
“St. Platon” — a waist-length image of the holy martyr in a violet cloak, with a cross in his right hand.
What the picture shows
The saint is shown as a young man with chestnut hair and a short beard, turned almost face-on. A rich violet cloak with a broad band of gold embroidery lies over his shoulders, and beneath it a blue-turquoise garment falls in folds, belted with a brown-red sash. His raised right hand holds the slender cross of a martyr; his lowered left hand touches it too. The halo is large, worked in rings of gold, orange and cream. The background is pale with printed leaf scrollwork, surrounded by a brown-and-gold ornamental frame with two fan-shaped corners above and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the cloak, the halo and the frame, while the face, hands and background stay printed.

The piece is vertical, the size of a small household icon. It suits a name-day icon for a Platon. The violet cloak is the largest and most visible block, so take three or four close shades to keep the folds from merging.
