Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Pauline"
Description
“St. Pauline” — a waist-length image of the venerable saint with an open scroll and her right hand raised in prayer.
What the picture shows
The saint is turned slightly to the left; a bright blue maphorion with small red crosses at the brow and shoulder covers her head and shoulders. A deep brick-red outer robe and a green under-dress with fine patterning show beneath it. Her right hand is raised palm outward, her left holds an open pale scroll bearing an inscription. The halo is wide, built from rings of gold, orange and white. The background is a pale cream with printed leaf scrollwork; two fan-shaped corner motifs sit at the top, narrow brown-and-gold bands of a repeating motif run down the sides, and a cartouche with the name closes the panel below. The beading is partial: beads cover the maphorion, the robes, the halo, the scroll and the frame, while the face, hands and printed background stay exactly as printed on the canvas.

The piece is vertical, the size of a small household icon. It suits a name-day icon for a Pauline or Apollinaria. The blue maphorion is the main block of colour here, so it is worth picking the blue shades in advance to keep the shift from light to deep smooth.
