“St. Paul” — the apostle with his hand raised in blessing and a scroll in his palm.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown half-length, with a high forehead and a long dark beard streaked with grey. His undergarment is green with broad vertical folds, and a crimson mantle lies over his left shoulder and chest. His right hand is raised in blessing; in his left he holds a pale blue scroll with gilded ends. The halo is built from concentric rings of ochre, green and warm gold. A brown-and-gold foliate border runs around the edge, with rosettes in the upper corners and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: figure, garments, scroll, halo and frame are beaded, while the cream printed background is left open.
