Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Orest"
Description
“St. Orest” — a waist-length image of the holy martyr with a cross in his hand, in a lilac cloak over a green tunic.
What the picture shows
The saint is shown as a young man with curly chestnut hair, his head turned slightly aside. He wears a green tunic with a broad decorated shoulder-piece embroidered in gold and violet, and over it a pale lilac cloak in large folds; a green-and-turquoise cloth is draped over his left arm. His right hand holds the slender cross of a martyr, his left is raised palm outward. The halo is large, moving from orange-gold at the centre to pale yellow at the rim. The background is cream with printed leaf scrollwork, surrounded by an amber-brown ornamental frame with fan-shaped upper corners and a cartouche with the name below. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the garments, the halo and the frame, while the face, hands and background stay printed.

The piece is vertical, the size of a small household icon. It suits a name-day icon for an Orest. The range is lighter and more festive than in the other icons of the series — lilac, green and gold sit side by side, so the transitions are worth testing on a few beads first.
