“St. Michael” — the archangel with his right hand raised, against cascading folds of blue.

What the picture shows

The archangel is shown half-length, his right hand lifted, his left resting quietly before him. His fair, wavy hair is caught by a narrow band. His garment is green and gold with a large green cross on the breast, and a terracotta cloak lies over it. Behind the figure, broad vertical falls of blue, turquoise and lilac descend like wings. The halo is gold, built from concentric rings. A brown-and-gold foliate border runs around the edge, with rosettes in the upper corners and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: figure, garments, halo, the blue falls and the frame are beaded, while the cream printed background is left open.
