What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length and almost frontal: a man with fair shoulder-length hair and a short beard. He wears a blue cloak in broad folds over golden-ochre armour with a fine scale pattern and dark trim; a crimson edge of cloth falls at his left. His right hand holds a long straight sword before him, hilt down and point up; his left rests on a belt with a round boss. The halo is golden-yellow with a pale centre and thin rays. The ground is cream with faint painted scrollwork; the border is dark brown, with diamonds, fans in the upper corners and an inscribed cartouche below. The fill is partial: beads cover the cloak, armour, sword, halo and border ornament, while the ground, face and hands stay printed.
